Lebanese Americans Denounce Harris Over Israel’s Invasion of Lebanon
Lebanese American attorney Majed Moughni cast a “protest vote” against Vice President Kamala Harris due to her response to Israel’s invasion of Lebanon. Moughni, born in Beirut, criticized Harris for failing to condemn the attacks and ignoring the will of Lebanese Americans nationwide.
Moughni’s vote for third-party candidate Cornel West highlighted the frustration felt by Lebanese Americans in Michigan, where more than 82,000 reside. The conflict in the Middle East has intensified personal connections for many, with some residents criticizing Harris for not speaking out against Israel’s actions.
Many Lebanese Americans are questioning the Biden administration’s unwavering support of Israel and its impact on the international community. Dearborn City Council President Michael Sareini criticized the administration, calling its policies hypocritical and urging for change.
Despite promises of ceasefires and diplomatic resolutions from the Biden-Harris administration, Lebanese Americans like Abed Ayoub feel that the situation has escalated into a full-blown war, questioning the true intentions behind U.S. policies in the region. The community remains determined to voice their concerns through their votes.
