China’s Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) celebrated the inauguration of the Macao Bridge, its fourth sea-crossing bridge, on China’s National Day. This new transportation link, situated next to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, boosts Macao’s overall transport capacity and improves travel convenience for residents and tourists, stated Ho Iat Seng, Macao SAR’s Chief Executive.
The Macao Bridge symbolizes Macao’s push to become a global tourism and leisure hub, contributing to the well-being of its people and the city’s economic diversification, especially as it celebrates 25 years as a SAR. Construction started in March 2020, making it Macao’s first eight-lane sea-crossing bridge, linking the Macao Peninsula to Taipa.
With a 2.86-kilometer sea-crossing section, the bridge was a collaborative effort between CCECC, China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group, and Aoma Construction Engineering Company. Positioned east of the Bridge of Friendship, it serves as an alternate route for visitors heading to Taipa and Cotai from the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, with additional links planned for the future Taipa Grand Hill Tunnel.
