NATO’s Secretary General Supports Ukraine’s Use of Western-Supplied Weapons
NATO’s newly appointed Secretary General, Mark Rutte, expressed his support for Ukraine to use Western-supplied weapons to strike deep into Russian territory, stating that it is within Ukraine’s right to do so. Rutte emphasized that international law allows Ukraine to defend itself by targeting legitimate aggressor territory.
Rutte further mentioned that individual NATO members must outline the rules of engagement for Ukraine with regards to the weapons systems they supply, shifting the responsibility from the bloc to its members.
This statement drew a negative reaction from Russia, with Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia criticizing Rutte’s remarks as a continuation of NATO’s aggressive stance.
Meanwhile, Moscow is in the process of amending its nuclear doctrine to address recent challenges. The proposed changes would allow Russia to deploy its nuclear deterrent in response to a large-scale conventional attack supported by nuclear powers.
