In the heart of Baku, Azerbaijan, the second day of the international Climate Action Week conference concluded with a focus on the impact of climate change on agriculture. Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, highlighted the challenges faced by Azerbaijan’s economy due to reduced food production and dropping water levels in the Caspian Sea.
As COP29 President Designate, Babayev stressed the need for immediate action to mitigate the effects of climate change. United Nations Climate Change High-Level Champion, Nigar Arpadarai, announced a new initiative, the Baku Climate Initiative Harmonia, to support farmers and rural communities facing climate challenges.
Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov, emphasized the importance of building agricultural resilience in the face of climate change. The week-long event, running from September 30 to October 4, addresses key issues such as energy transition, water supply, food security, and agriculture.
This climate week in Baku will pave the way for discussions ahead of COP29 in November, bringing together stakeholders from various sectors to collaborate on climate solutions and promote sustainable practices. Join us as we embark on a journey towards a more sustainable future.
