Massive youth opposition to the #October1 protest flooded Port Harcourt, reminiscent of the #EndBadGovernanceProtest in August. The anti-fearless protesters gathered near the Federal Secretariat and the Pleasure Park, with armed security personnel keeping watch. The number of protesters swelled to over 200 by 10 am.
One youth, speaking anonymously, stated their intent to stop the protest, not participate. At the Pleasure Park, about fifty anti-fearless protesters were spotted, warning against taking photos of them.
Reports of arrests of unidentified youths near the Federal Secretariat surfaced, indicating tensions as more youths arrived in the area. Organisers of the Independence Day Protest under the ‘Take It Back Movement’ remained resolute in their plans despite opposition.
Efforts to reach the police spokesperson proved futile, but the State Police Command issued a warning against protests that disrupt law and order, deploying operatives to ensure security in Port Harcourt.
The statement emphasized the importance of upholding peace and security, urging residents to refrain from activities that could lead to chaos and disruptions.
