In the midst of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, a makeshift encampment has sprung up on a beach in Beirut. The airstrikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs have forced Zeina Nazha and her daughter to seek refuge on the city beach, joining others displaced from Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold. Israel’s military campaign has displaced over a million people in Lebanon, with many seeking shelter in makeshift tents along the beach, unable to find space in overcrowded shelters set up by the government and charities.
With no end in sight to the conflict, people like Mohamed Terkmene, a displaced Syrian man in Lebanon, find themselves uncertain of their future as they camp on the beach, unsure of how long they must remain in this makeshift home. As the conflict rages on, families like Nazha’s are left to sleep under the open sky, seeking safety from the violence that has engulfed their homes.
This poignant scene of displacement and uncertainty is a stark reminder of the toll that war takes on innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
