This past week marked my eldest daughter’s fifth birthday, a bittersweet moment as we continue to yearn for the return of our loved ones held captive in Gaza. Amidst the celebrations, there is an overwhelming absence that weighs heavily on our hearts. The wish my daughter made as she blew out her candles—to visit her friend by the Kinneret—symbolizes the normalcy and peace we long for in our lives.
Living in the North, the fear and uncertainty have only amplified since my brother and his family were taken captive by Hamas. Every siren triggers anxiety, reminding us of the constant threat looming over us. Despite the strategic efforts and targeted killings, the lack of progress in bringing the hostages home leaves us feeling betrayed and vulnerable.
As the conflict rages on, I grapple with conflicting emotions after each military operation. While the destruction of Hamas is crucial, the safe return of the hostages is equally important for true peace to be restored. We must shift our focus from symbolic victories to tangible solutions that prioritize the lives of our loved ones.
