LAHORE: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department announced a new initiative aimed at curbing tax evasion.
Under the newly approved scheme, citizens who report tax evasion will be eligible for a reward of 20 per cent of the fine imposed on the offenders.
The decision comes amid growing concerns over the impact of tax evasion on the provincial economy. Evading tax not only affects government revenue but also places an additional burden on the compliant taxpayers.

As per the department authorities, people who successfully identify tax evaders will be able to report them confidentially. Upon detection, the tax evader will be required to pay a fine equivalent to the amount of tax that was evaded.
The provincial cabinet approved the reward scheme and the excise department is in the process of drafting amendments to existing rules to implement it. A summary of the amendments will be submitted shortly.
